How you are helping… The Artisan Cooperatives & Entrepreneurs we work with have a similar system as social service agencies that provide support to end the cycle of poverty for the members & their families. Health care, paid maternity leave, retirement pensions, and daycare… all part of the members opportunity to grow and rise above poverty. They are guided towards a better life free of domestic violence. There are literacy classes, computer training, and workshops on hygiene, nutrition, and parenting. All of this really makes a difference in rural parts of the world. Simple yet impactful training has changed the lives of so many women. A coop member shared that prior to the training provided she never rode a bus because she could not read the bus numbers. Now she travels around Mumbai by bus without a problem. We love that these women are empowered to navigate their own lives, quite literally!

Thank you so much for being a NICE HUMAN!
MADE IN INDIA
India is a traditional society where a woman doesn’t usually work outside the home. Many of the Artisans have gained a voice, confidence & friendships since joining the Fair Trade Cooperatives. They are making a difference in their communities by 200 women protesting for water in their village during a long drought – and it worked! We are so proud of them and the strength to stand up for themselves as a larger community united.
These women approach life now with an open heart and it is this beauty and intricacy of delicate jewelry making that inspired many Fair Trade supporters to start importing the goods there woman are producing.
Fair Trade equals Fair Wages.
Artisans are supported to grow by getting a fair price for the goods they are producing. Not like Fast Fashion, where the Makers do not benefit at all. With Fair Trade the women at the co-ops earn a fair wage that exceeds the local minimum wage. They are paid per piece so the amount each artisan makes varies. The benefit of this system is the flexibility it allows in terms of hours (some women work part time or from home). The women in the co-op exercise control in determining the price, as it is a worker-owned cooperative organization., and they all receive a share of the profits. This is a beautiful way to grow!
Happily, more and more consumers are asking for fair trade products and looking to make socially conscious purchases. This is just another way for you to be a nice human!
Fair Trade is not charity. It is a trade-based movement that focuses on creating long-term relationships based on transparency, trust and respect. High5Humans is committed to working with partners that provide fair wages and work with organizations that provide safe and healthy working conditions, job training, time off for education, loans and financial advising, opportunities for health care and most importantly a positive and uplifting working environment.
CARING FOR BRASS JEWELRY
Natural brass will oxidize over time, turning a darker, more muted color. To maintain a shiny, bright finish for as long as possible, store your brass in a sealed plastic bag with an anti-tarnish strip and keep it dry. Do not wear in the shower or store in a humid environment.
Take off jewelry before showering and before applying perfumes, hairsprays, lotions or make-up. Avoid contact with household cleaning products. These can speed up the tarnishing process.
To return brass to its original shine, make a paste of baking soda, water and lemon juice and gently rub it onto the piece with a soft cloth. Wash the mixture off using running water, then dry and buff with a clean cloth.
